- USB Handwheel Encoder for LinuxCNC
Description:
This handwheel is useful for moving your CNC machine at either small or large increments to accurately find edges or move to specific locations.
This USB handwheel can plug into any PC or Raspberry Pi that is running LinuxCNC. It is powered by the USB port and communicates encoder wheel edges back to the LinuxCNC software module. The software module can also relay X, Y, Z, and A positions to be displayed on the screen.
Features:
- USB Powered (40mA current draw)
- 4 Axis Control
- Off, 1x, 10x, and 100x speeds
- Green LED blinks when edges occur
- OLED screen is visible even in direct sunlight
Since this assembly is quite heavy, international customers may prefer to order just the kit without the plastic housing and encoder. The plastic housing STL file and STEP files are available below for you to make your own. The encoder wheel may be available locally (Amazon or Ebay). The weight of the encoder wheel makes it expensive to ship.
This product is the entire assembly, including the flexible USB cable and allen wrench. The plastic housing is 3D printed. It ships in a 6x4x2 inch box.

Please see our blog on setting up and using the handwheel located here:
Setup and Usage of the LinuxCNC Handwheel
The handwheel HAL file needs to be included into your existing HAL file. Also, the software module will need to be installed into LinuxCNC to communicate with this handwheel. Once those two are set up correctly, it should work!
